How can someone achieve their goals faster while remaining focused? Before we discuss this however we should understand the starting point which is we need a plan, a plan that we intentionally work on daily and as we seek to replace our bad habits with good ones, to help us be the person we want to be 5 years from now.
All these are broken down into detail in my SUCCESS SERIES please read more on this in my previous blogs posts.
1.SEEK GOD FOR CONTINUAL STRENGTH
It is not every day we feel motivated and we are constantly battling to remain focused by choosing what is right. In my experience as a Christian, fighting to remain focused and working at my goals alone, is the source of constant failure. As Christians we know that:
Ephesians 6:12 King James Version (KJV) “we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.”
God is our best cheerleader and as He commit our goals to Him continually seeking His strength He will fight for us constantly till we see success. On top of that He gives you tips on best paths to take and best practices.
It starts by first having your goals at your fingertips. All your focus will then always be driven by the goals you have set.
For example if your goal is to be the good wife and intent on finding your husband as so, it will mean that your focus will be on saying no to all men who seek to date you but not marry you.
If your goal is to save more, you will have to remain focused on cutting out all spending that is wasteful.
In trying to remain focused our biggest enemy will be distractions. Simple things like phone calls, facebook notifications can really steal our time while striving to be productive.
To beat this one must intentionally and deliberately choose to do say no to the distractions and focus on what we need to do to achieve their overall goals. We must also recognize that we have to do what we are supposed to despite our feelings at that time. As my friend Winnie says acknowledge your feelings but don’t let that be your stop, keep pushing forward. Don’t let your feelings rule you. This is a practice that will bear much in the long run.
Successful people do constantly what others do occasionally.
3.HAVE A YEARLY – MONTHLY – WEEKLY – DAILY PLAN
This helps you keep focus on your goals on a day to day basis helping you get closer to your goal.
For example: Year 2018 – Make 2 videos per month, Month – Prepare and shoot 2 videos, Weekly – Remember to finalize on video, Day – Post the video by 8:00 am.
Or Year 2018 –Prepare to be a wife Monthly – Read books for growth ,attend seminars, find Godly example of wife, Weekly- Pick one element of a good wife and implement it in my life, Daily – Read Chapter 4 of Lady in Waiting.
For me what has helped in this regard is having a diary. You may also find a planner more useful.
At end of each week and month review the tasks completed and for the ones that were not, ensure are the first tasks for the next week and month.
Also keep track of your accomplishments and reached milestones to keep you motivated. It will really be fun seeing all you did in the year at the end of the year. Also forms content for your gratitude prayer in that day, week, month and year.
With the yearly goal in mind, what you do is write down your objectives for each month in helping you get closer to your goal.
4.DO NOTHING ELSE UNTIL YOUR MOST IMPORTANT TASK IS DONE
Prioritize on what you’re most important goals for that year, month and day are and do them first. Brian Tracy says “Eat the frog first.” This will help you remain focused on the bigger picture in attaining your overall main goals.
Recently as I continued doing my day to day activities this truth was imprinted in my thoughts “Be busy moving forward in your goals and not otherwise.”
See you can be very busy doing a lot of things and everything else, seem even productive but if you are not completing your most important tasks for that day, month and year then you are hitting misses.
5.BE INTENTIONAL AND DELIBERATE IN ATTAINING YOUR GOALS
Most of the times achieving something we want entails doing things that we often don’t enjoy.
For example: One of your goals maybe to lose 10 kgs. This in no way is an easy fit.
Everything we do in life is based on choices and we are the ones who make the choices mostly. For us therefore to achieve our goals we must constantly CHOOSE TO REMAIN INTENTIONAL AND DELIBERATE despite what our bodies or feelings may say.
