CONVERSATIONS WITH GOD

One of my favourite moments on earth is having conversations with God. I am really fascinated by God and I have never gotten over the fact that the God of this universe would even give us a thought. Not only a thought but a precious and loving thought of us.

In this post I share some of the few and simple conversations that I have heard with God. As I begin I am reminded of this verse:

Isaiah 1:18 “Come now, and let us reason together, saith the Lord: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.”

This verse is special to me because despite God having the upper hand in everything, He stills invites us to have a conversation with Him as we discuss the very thing that we know separated us from Him or as I like to say broke His heart.

Drawing from that, I remember last year when I had slipped and committed a sin that I had been avoiding for a whole year, I could not stop beating myself up about it and being displeased in what I had done. Trust me no one is usually more disappointed in the mistake done more than the maker of the mistake. That day when God spoke He did not mention the sin I had done but tried to explain to me why it had happened simply and without any judgement. Out of that conversation I was inspired to write the blog post Let’s face it,Women are easy!

A similar situation had happened to me while heading to work a few years back when I had quietly asked God “Why is it Lord that each time I say I will not do something I do it again. It’s like I have no control over it and it’s like I am stripped of choice.” I asked this question very earnestly and God as surely as He said in Isaiah 1:18 answered me instantly in an interesting way by saying “Hello, my name is weakness” and moments later I received my full answer in the words that I wrote in the blog “Hello my name is weakness”.

In both times God did not refer to my sin and neither am I saying He condoned it. Before lovingly correcting me He reasoned with me helping me understand how and why my actions were leading to sin before going on to correct me.

“Come let’s reason together” says the Lord.

One day as I did my work on my computer I kept saying “God please don’t forget me. Don’t pass me by”. I repeated this for a long time. I stopped for a moment to concentrate on something on the computer. God must have been patiently waiting for me to finish my repetitions for in that moment, a very audible and still voice said almost with a smile “Are you really worried about me forgetting you or you forgetting me?” I laughed as I knew it is I who was bound to forget and that He never leaves nor forsakes us. This is why you will hear me sing the loudest “Prone to wander Lord I feel it. Prone to leave the God I love. Take my heart Lord, Take and seal it. Seal it for thy courts above.” (Song: Come thy fount of every blessings).

Hebrews 13:5 ‘He will never leave us nor forsake us.’

Back when we were moving to our new house with my twin sister we prayed earnestly to get a nice house. When we finally did, the place was more than what we had expected. So one afternoon I stood and looked around the compound saying, “Lord Jesus I really really like this place” .I received an instant answer that was said with a big smile “I knew you would”.

How well our Lord Jesus knows us.

I am a serious person sometimes and in those moments I find myself speaking to Jesus Christ as I would a boss. Once He asked me What do you like doing? (As if He does not know).I immediately answered as if in an interview in heaven “Want to reach out to people, inspire people with your love…..” I was surprised when He cut me half way and said “Ruthie you too serious. I mean what do you actually enjoy doing?” I laughed at actually being called serious by Jesus Christ.

Relax. You were also made to enjoy all the good things the Lord created and gives you.

As in I don’t know if you have met a more humorous guy like Jesus Christ. So I honestly don’t enjoy washing clothes at all just do it because I have to. So on this day I was like “Goodness all this clothes!” frowning at them.

In that moment I heard a voice as if almost about to burst into laughter say It’s like “Eloi Eloi lama sabachthani?” which is translated, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”

I burst out into laughter saying “Nice one Jesus Christ”. It definitely made my day and my washing very easy as I kept laughing remembering what He had said.

The day Jesus was a comedian 🙂

Just as I have experienced a funny and loving God in these conversations so have I encountered the firm God who despite all wants us to remember it is all about Him in all that we do and never about us.

So recently after starting to work, I was feeling my life getting too busy and told God this “I feel my life is moving very fast and I am losing my focus on you my love. Please help me find balance and know how I can include you in my day”.

Instantly I received a reply and the voice sounded firm and serious when it said “It’s really not about you fitting Me in your busy schedule and tagging Me along everywhere you go. It is really about you fitting in my plan for you each new day, where you ask me, ‘what would you have me do today, my Lord?”

At the end of the day it is all about Jesus Christ and not ourselves.

What are some of the best conversations that you have had with God? God bless you all.

  1. I really love reading this.. it brings to reality that our Lord is a Person!.. with a personality and sense of humor too.. He is serious when He needs to be, but He’s also not afraid to laugh and smile either. (I’m sure He’s reading this post I just made and probably rolling His eyes at me..lol ..)

  2. Oh Sweetie! It was delightful to read your conversations! I just put out a vision I had of being with Him..In the beautiful book He and I by Gabrielle Bossis, He says, that He sees time all at one..in one glance, so in spirit we can be with Him in His day. So I imagined being with Him in a moment He would be praying to His Father when the others (Apostles were sleeping -) Jesus would pray for hours to His Father – I can send this to you if you like and other messages. Lisa who also wrote you sent me your page and she puts hers and my experiences and others on the Blog of Heart Dwellers – Oh thanks so much for sharing dear one!! Love it. And I think you would love the ones I have and even Lisa – may they uplift and encourage and console and bring more souls to speak with Him..you should order the book He and i !! For 15 years Gabrielle put down the whisperings of Jesus in her heart – awesome love and mercy. So much like you have (mine too!) and others of course….how He wants to speak to us..all of us. This awesome book can be ordered from: amazon.com
How I wish THE WHOLE WORLD WOULD READ THIS AFTER THE BIBLE! WOW.
And that puts it mildly… God bless and love you and all dear to you sweetie.. Patricia Owens – NJ
