Happy New Year Lovely people!
Where do you see yourself in 10 years? This is a common question we are asked all the time.
Most times we give simple and obvious answers that are common to all of us. To get a job, get married and have kids.
Think about it. This is not a specific vision for your life just an obvious chain of events that are likely to occur.
A vision dictates the nitty gritty desires and dreams people have for themselves. Unfortunately, not everyone has a vision. The simple question “Where do you see yourself in 10 years” is met with an answer that has not been thought out.
For example, how much do you want to be earning by the age of 35 years? Will the Ksh.70,000 that you are paid today, still be okay 10 years from now? What is our retirement plan? Will you engage in a business, hobbies or live with your adult children? Do you want to be an employee all the days of your life or want to own your company at some point? How do you want to look like at the age of 50? What do you want your legacy to look like? What kind of marriage do you want? and so much more.
These questions though may seem intense, introduce us to a whole new level in our lives. It’s a lack of clarity in our own desires and dreams that shows us our lack of vision and purpose and gets us thinking about having a vision for our lives.
“IT IS THE CLARITY OF THE VISION WITHIN YOU THAT GETS THE BALL ROLLING.”
So now, you may have an idea of what you would like to do and be in the next few years what do you do?
Write it down.
Habakkuk 2:2 “Then the LORD answered me and said, “Record the vision And inscribe it on tablets, That the one who reads it may run.”
Go a step further and make it plain before your eyes.
Writing your vision down puts your dreams and visions into perspective. Making it plain and visual before you every day, makes you start working towards it, this is what is referred to as a vision board.
A vision board is simply a board that contains all your visions and aspirations in the form of pictures and images of the things you aspire to achieve.
You may say “That’s simple we did it in art and craft class. How does it work to help me achieve my dreams? Is a magical board?”
It is not magic. This is how it works.
1.PLACE YOUR VISION BEFORE YOUR EYES – MAKE IT VISUAL
Proverbs 23:7 “for as he thinks in his heart, so is he.”
The vision serves as a constant reminder of what you aspire to attain. The more you see it the more you start moving toward it. It becomes what you think about most time and as the Word of the Lord says you shall become what you keep thinking about.
Remember the Book and DVD series, THE SECRET?
‘THE LAW OF ATTRACTION BORROWS FROM GOD’S WORD.’
Placing that board on the wall is a first step in telling yourselves anything is possible and that you actually believe you can do it.
- HAVE A STRATEGIC PLAN
Let’s say one of your visions is to learn how to drive a car. What plan do you need to execute to acquire this skill? The obvious plan here would be to go to driving school.
‘REMEMBER WHEN YOU FAIL TO PLAN, YOU PLAN TO FAIL.’
- HAVE TIMELINES
Timelines are kind of what make us start working. When you are told the exams are in two weeks, you start studying harder otherwise you would just lay there and not do much. Same case to your vision goals.
Say you want to be self-employed. If you clearly indicate by the age of 35 you want to have your own business, it means all your energy will be focused on attaining this timeline. There is beauty in the pressure of timelines.
- TAKE ACTION.
This is what gets your vision rolling. If it is to learn how to drive, take action by going to school. If it is to be self-employed take action by opening your business.
- COMMIT YOUR VISION TO GOD IN PRAYER
God is big on dreams and visions. He is the greatest visionary.
He is the One who came up with the whole idea of visions. Remember to commit your visions to Him in prayer daily and He will see to it they come to pass according to His will.
When discouraged remember Habbakuk 2:3 “For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry.”
You can trust God to honour His Word as He is bound by it.
